WIRING CONNECTIONS

Operation

On detecting flame, the Alarm Sounder operates and the Red Alarm lamp illuminates with both continuing to oscillate on and off until the flame is extinguished.

Installation & maintenance

Although the detector is weather proof, avoid locations where moisture may contaminate the sensor tube.

In confined areas, aluminium cooking foil (shiny side out) glued on to surrounding areas at 45º to the central axis of the detector will assist in enhancing detection where obstructions exist.   The foil must be beyond and to one side of the obstruction and within the field of view of the detector.

Precautions

Ensure that the sensor tube is kept free from oil,  grease and dirt which will reduce sensitivity.  Periodically clean the sensor tube with pure alcohol or similar substance with s no residue.   DO NOT clean with polish or any form of silicone.

The sensor tube is very fragile and sensitive to vibration.  Handle carefully to avoid damage.  As with all UV flame detectors, avoid spurious sources of UV such as sparks, quartz halogen lights (not covered by glass), lightning etc.

The ARSON detector

THIS ARSON DETECTOR IS BELIEVED TO BE THE FIRST OF IT’S TYPE

  Mk1 - Arson Detector

Covert in appearance and operation, with the sensor on the front of the unit, typically detects a 25mm flame at 6 metres in 2 to 3 seconds. Speed of detection depends on size of flame, distance and type of fuel.  Large flames will be detected up to 50 metres or more.

The GPRS AutoDialer which forms part of the unit, contains a pre paid SIM card, is easy to programme with your alarm message and up to five telephone numbers via text messages from your mobile phone.  Alternatively, it may also be programmed via your PC.  Ideal for remote areas as no land line is required.

This combination of high speed detection and reporting may enable the fire to be extinguished before there is loss of life or any major damage.

The Arson Detector is completely self contained and operates from a 12Vdc supply either from a battery or mains adaptor.  Being self contained, it may be easily moved from one location to another suspected high risk area.  In addition to alerting you by phone, the unit is capable of activating a CCTV camera for identification of the arsonist.  External switches such as those used for security purposes on doors and windows will also activate the unit.

Limitations of the Arson Detector Mk1 are spurious sources of UV such as lightning, sparks and quartz halogen lights with no glass in front.  Because of this limitation, we recommend that the unit only be used indoors to avoid false activation.  The Mk2 version which is almost identical is fitted with a dual infrared sensor which is not prone to false activations from the above criteria.  However, the Mk2 is more costly and approximately 10 seconds slower to respond.

Please contact us for details or if you require a unit on “Sale or Return” for evaluation.

Although new, a similar unit is already in use at a school to detect and report on prohibited smoking in a toilet area.

NEW!

Mk1. SEQUENCE OF EVENTS

1. The arsonist breaks in, opens a door and the door switch (if fitted and connected)

    activates the Arson Detector.

2. Alternatively or in addition, the arsonist ignites flammable material and typically, 2 -

5 seconds later the Arson Detector is activated.

4. Approximately 10 - 15 seconds from time of ignition or door opening, the pre -

programmed landline or mobile telephone rings and provides the warning

    message.

Alerts you in typically, 10 - 15 seconds from time of ignition

The above details are provisional and subject to change without notice

The Mk1 Arson Detector is the first of a series currently being developed.  Speed of detection is vital to detect the offending party and for the protection of life and property.  This unit employs a UV sensor which is highly sensitive and has been known to detect arc welding more than a mile away.  We are currently investigating the possibility of producing long range units immune to false alarms.  Should such a unit be of interest, please provide us with your comments as this would assist us in assessing the viability of such a development.
